TOWARD AUTOMATED THREAT MODELING BY ADVERSARY NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE DISCOVERY

    Get PDF
Threat modeling can help defenders ascertain potential attacker capabilities and resources, allowing better protection of critical networks and systems from sophisticated cyber-attacks. One aspect of the adversary profile that is of interest to defenders is the means to conduct a cyber-attack, including malware capabilities and network infrastructure. Even though most defenders collect data on cyber incidents, extracting knowledge about adversaries to build and improve the threat model can be time-consuming. This thesis applies machine learning methods to historical cyber incident data to enable automated threat modeling of adversary network infrastructure. Using network data of attacker command and control servers based on real-world cyber incidents, specific adversary datasets can be created and enriched using the capabilities of internet-scanning search engines. Mixing these datasets with data from benign or non-associated hosts with similar port-service mappings allows for building an interpretable machine learning model of attackers. Additionally, creating internet-scanning search engine queries based on machine learning model predictions allows for automating threat modeling of adversary infrastructure. Automated threat modeling of adversary network infrastructure allows searching for unknown or emerging threat actor network infrastructure on the Internet.Major, Ukrainian Ground ForcesApproved for public release. Notwithstanding the law governing the dispute, everyone has the right to a fair and impartial trial, as stated in the first paragraph of Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights. This provision emphasises an impartial trial within a reasonable time without taking into account the civil, administrative, criminal nature of the case. Because the court`s decision is announced publicly, the press and the public may not be allowed into the courtroom in order not to harm the interests of justice. This process is implemented in the interests of a democratic society, namely public order, national security and morality. The purpose of the article is an analysis of problems and conflicts in the field of criminal and constitutional law related to measures to ensure the right to a fair trial in the light of the European Convention on Human Rights, including the analyses of the cases in the ECtHR related to Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights and the consideration of the problems faced by the two sides of the lawsuit. The main research methods are analysis and synthesis, comparative and formal legal methods, using of which ensured an analysis of the legal framework of national and international law, doctrinal approaches and practise of the ECtHR in the context of the problems, conflicts and counteractions encountered in ensuring the right to a fair trial. The conclusions point to conflicts in such cases, and provide theoretical advice on how to improve them

Mechanical properties of co-extruded aluminium-steel compounds

Within the scope of the Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) 1153 novel process chains for the production of hybrid solid components by Tailored Forming are developed at the Leibniz Universität Hannover. The combination of e. g. aluminium with steel allows to produce hybrid compounds with wear-resistant functional surfaces and reduced weight. In these process chains, joining takes place as the first step to produce hybrid semi-finished products by friction welding, cladding, ultrasonic assisted laser welding or co-extrusion, which are subsequently subjected to various forming processes such as forging or impact extrusion. The coaxially joined hybrid semifinished components investigated in this work were produced by means of the lateral angular co-extrusion (LACE) process using the aluminium alloy EN AW-6082 and the case-hardening steel 20MnCr5. These semi-finished products shall be suited to produce hybrid bearing bushings by die forging in a subsequent process step. Initial investigations for the determination of the process parameters and the appropriate tool geometry were made using a steel rod. In future investigations, a steel tube will replace the steel rod in order to produce hybrid semi-finished products, which can be fully integrated into the process chain. The mechanical properties of the profile were determined at different positions along its length. For this purpose, the quality of the joining zone between aluminium and steel as a function of the profile position was examined by means of push-out tests. Moreover, the mechanical properties of the aluminium component's longitudinal weld seam were determined by micro-tensile-tests. © 2017 Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland

Hot forming of shape memory alloys in steel shells: formability, interface, bonding quality

    Get PDF
Metal forming of shape memory alloys (SMA) can be challenging since these are very often brittle due to their intermetallic character. However, formability is often needed not only for realising the desired geometry but also for tailoring the microstructure and the functional properties. To investigate whether the encapsulation in a steel shell can improve the formability of shape memory alloys, Co49Ni21Ga30 and Ni49.5Fe14.5Mn4.0Ga26.0Co6.0 samples were subjected to tensile tests, upsetting, rolling and extrusion. A ferritic steel (1.0503) was used as the shell material. The shell was employed to curtail the formation of tensile stresses in the core, to maintain high temperatures during processing and to prevent oxidation. With this approach, not only forming of the SMA in the steel shell was possible but also an intensive metallurgical bond between the SMA and the steel shell can be achieved during hot rolling or extrusion

Tailoring Soft Local Zones in Quenched Blanks of the Steel 22MnB5 by Partial Pre-cooling with Compressed Air

The high-strength boron steel 22MnB5 steel is widely used for automotive lightweight constructions. A novel approach is promising to tailor strength and ductility in the hardened condition using locally pre-tempered sheets for the hot stamping process. It results in the formation of locally soft spots where mechanical joining is subsequently intended. A slow pre-cooling of the later joining zones with cooling rates below a certain critical cooling rate for obtaining a decreased strength in these regions is required. A tubular air cooling system suited for this task is presented and tested in a process where the subsequent quenching of the overall sheet is realized by rapid cooling in a water bath. Varying the air pressure and cooling duration allows controlling the size of the softened local spot in a wide range and still obtaining a bainitic microstructure. Using two-stage cooling with point jet nozzles and a subsequent hot stamping process with water-cooled dies resulted in a main sheet hardness of about 470 HV5 and of 260 HV5 in the pre-cooled spots, respectively
